Marine Harvest Canada position statement on transgenic salmon

The Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance, which includes Marine Harvest, does not support the commercial production of genetically engineered (transgenic) fish for human consumption. Furthermore, Marine Harvest does not produce, sell, or research transgenic salmon.
Today, Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced approval of a genetically engineered salmon (AquAdvantage ®) for sale in the Canadian market. This company is not associated with nor supported by Marine Harvest.
As it currently stands, Marine Harvest Canada’s farm-raised Atlantic salmon are the most efficient and healthiest farm-raised animals, with feed conversion rates and growth amongst the best in the world. The company’s internal selective breeding program and farming practices provide high quality and healthy seafood to satisfy growing markets.
Marine Harvest supports labeling of genetically engineered salmon.
